When does a tree have to come down?
A tree has to come down when it can no longer stand safely where it is, or when pruning cannot fix what is wrong with it. On Cape Cod that usually means a trunk that has died, a tree leaning toward a house or driveway, a trunk split by a storm, or roots lifting the ground at the base. Pines and oaks beside shingle homes are common here, and a tall tree close to a roof leaves very little room for error. Native Roots Tree Service looks at the tree in person, talks through whether removal or trimming makes more sense, and explains what the job involves before any cutting starts. When removal is the right call, the crew sets up a bucket truck or climbs, takes the tree down in sections, and chips the brush. The signs below are a guide, not a diagnosis.
Dead or dying
Bare branches in the growing season, bark peeling away in sheets, or fungus at the base can point to a tree that has died. Dead wood turns brittle and can drop limbs without warning.
Leaning toward the house
A lean that is new, or getting worse, deserves a look, especially toward a roof, driveway or wires. A tree that has always leaned a little can be fine. A sudden change is the warning.
Storm-split
Cracks down the trunk, or large limbs torn away after a storm, leave weak wood that can fail later. A split trunk is rarely something pruning can repair.
Roots lifting
Soil heaving up on one side, roots showing at the surface, or a trunk that rocks in the wind can mean the roots are losing their grip on the ground.
Not sure which one you have? Ask for a quote and we will look at the tree with you. If it is healthy and only crowding the house, tree trimming may be the better fit.
From first look to a clean yard
-
Quote visit
We look at the tree, the access and what stands around it, then talk through the plan and the price before any work is booked.
-
Setup and bucket truck
The crew marks out the work zone and sets up the bucket truck. Where a truck cannot reach, climbers go up on ropes.
-
Piece-by-piece removal
Limbs and trunk come down in sections, cut and lowered in controlled pieces so nothing swings into your roof, fence or garden.
-
Chipping and cleanup
Brush goes through the wood chipper and the work area is cleaned up. Ask about the stump and the wood when you book.

John and his crew came on time (actually a little early), worked diligently and finished the job in about two hours. Clean up was great. Communication was great. We would highly recommend him for tree removal.

Questions about tree removal on Cape Cod
How much does tree removal cost on Cape Cod?
The price depends on the tree, not a flat rate. Height, trunk size, how close it stands to a house, fence or wires, whether a bucket truck can reach it, and how much wood and brush must be chipped or hauled all change the job. Ask for a quote and Native Roots Tree Service will look at your tree and talk through the price before work starts.
How does tree removal work?
After a quote visit, the crew sets up a bucket truck or climbs the tree on ropes and takes it down in sections, lowering or cutting each piece in a controlled way. Brush goes through the wood chipper and the work area is cleaned up. The steps above show a typical removal from first look to cleanup.
Which towns do you serve for tree removal?
Native Roots Tree Service works across Cape Cod and the South Coast of Massachusetts, including Falmouth, Mashpee, Pocasset, Hyannis, Bourne, Barnstable, Yarmouth, Wareham, Middleboro and Fairhaven. If your town is not on that list, ask when you request a quote and we will tell you whether we can get there.
How soon can a tree be removed?
Timing depends on the crew schedule, the weather and the tree itself. Customers have described quick replies and work done soon after a visit, but dates are set job by job. Request a quote, describe the tree and any storm damage, and ask about the next opening. Mention it up front if the tree leans toward a house.
Should I remove the tree or have it trimmed?
If the tree is healthy and only crowding a roof or wires, tree trimming may solve it. If it is dead, split, leaning toward a structure or has lifting roots, removal is more likely the answer. A quote visit settles it. We also do stump removal once the tree is down.
